Derry Court: Assault case adjourned for pre-sentence report

A man who could not offer any explanation as to why he assaulted another man has had his case adjourned to allow a pre-sentence report to be prepared.

Michael Patrick Bradley (22) with an address now at Drumvale Avenue in Ballymoney admitted the assault that took place outside the Strand Foyer in Derry on April 1 2021.

The court heard that police received a report of an assault outside the Strand Foyer and attended Altnagelvin Hospital to speak to the victim.

It was said the victim did not make a lot of sense due to the assault but a witness was able to give police descriptions of the two assailants and their names.

Several weeks later the injured party was able to give police descriptions but no names.

He said he was attacked and when he went to ground he was kicked by the two men.

Due to where the assault occurred near the PSNI Station police examined CCTV and found footage of the assault.

Defence solicitor Keith Kyle said his client had issues at the time of the assault and could offer no explanation as he didn't know the injured party.

He said that the defendant had now moved away from Derry and was 'dealing' with his issues and described it as 'an isolated incident'.

District Judge Barney McElholm adjourned until June 2 for a short pre-sentence report to be prepared.
