The Johnny Quigley All Stars
During 1950/60/70 social life was very limited and most people enjoyed going dancing and they loved the great dance music provided by the Irish Showbands.
A lot of todays married couples would have met their partners in the ballrooms of the North West during those years.
The showbands in the North West were credited with putting the show into bands, they received rave reviews around the country and further afield for their great musicianship and their highly polished performances and they played to thousands of dancers around the country.
An exhibition highlighting the bands of that era has just opened this week and will run until Tuesday, 9th May at The Central Library in Foyle Street.
The exhibition will be open from 10.00am and will also run during the Jazz Festival.
Peter Boy and The Trend
If you were a dancer during that period, you will be able to take a trip down memory lane and if you were not around during that period come along and learn about the musical heritage of the city during that era.
Johnny Murray, a member of local showband The Trend, and the Derry and Strabane Council Museum Service have delivered this excellent exhibition which is well worth a visit.
