Derry Magistrate's Court heard today how a woman walked into the Strand Road PSNI Station and then struck an officer with a shopping bag.

Wendy Sarah Gardiner (52) of Drumbane Gardens in Derry admitted a charge of disorderly behaviour and assault on police on January 29 this year.

The court heard that a police patrol was returning to the station and observed Gardiner outside the gate.

When the gate opened Gardiner ran through the vehicle access gate.

A police officer escorted her out again and she struck him with a shopping bag she was carrying.

Defence solicitor Seamus Quigley said that the bag contained a packet of biscuits and a plastic bottle of water.

Gardiner was fined £200.
