Derry Court: Man jailed for assault of doctor and Indecent behaviour in hospital

Urgent Staff workforce appeal for Altnagelvin Hospital

Derry's Altnagelvin Hospital.

A man has been jailed at Derry Magistrate's Court today for assaulting a doctor and indecent behaviour at Altnagelvin Hospital.

Paul Farren (33) of Duncreggan Road in Derry admitted both charges that occurred on September 6 2022.

The court heard that police were called to the hospital after Farren was walking around with no trousers on in A&E.

Farren had removed his trousers in the ambulance triage area and when approached by a doctor and asked to stop walking around like this he became aggressive and put the doctor in fear of assault.

Farren was also charged with indecent exposure but District Judge Barney McElholm ruled that the defendant was 'hopelessly drunk' and was 'beyond control of himself' and ruled he had no real intention of exposing himself and so he dismissed that charge.

Defence counsel Stephen Chapman said that his client was already serving a prison sentence.

Judge McElholm imposed a sentence of three months.
