A Derry woman, who stole a vacuum cleaner from a Tesco store, has been fined and ordered to pay compensation.
Katrina Corcoran, of Beraghvale, was convicted of a single count of theft when her case came before Limavady Magistrates Court yesterday (Wednesday).
The court heard that the theft was picked up by the Coleraine supermarket's CCTV on April 10 2022.
The 29 year-old entered the shop and lifted a vacuum cleaner, valued at £149, off the shelf and took it to the customer service desk where she attempted to get a refund for the product.
Staff refused a refund as the defendant did not have a receipt for the item.
Following this, Corcoran left the shop with the item, which she did not pay for.
The court heard that the defendant was identified through the CCTV footage.
District Judge Peter King fined Corcoran £300 and ordered her to pay compensation of £149 to Tesco Coleraine.
