A young man has been given a chance to avoid a driving ban after being caught driving at 168km/h in Donegal.

Thomas Megaughin appeared at Letterkenny District Court after being stopped by Gardai at the Manorcunningham Roundabout on July 27, 2022.

Megaughin was detected driving at 168km/h in a 100km/h zone.

McLaughlin, a 24-year-old from Dairyvale in Derry, was driving a red Seat Leon while speeding at Rossbracken.

His solicitor, Mr Kieran O'Gorman, asked Judge Éiteáin Cunningham if she would consider reducing the charge from one of dangerous driving to one of careless driving.

However, Judge Cunningham said she was concerned at the level of speed in the case.

She suggested the case be adjourned until McLaughlin attended the next Pro Social Driving Course which is due to take place in February

The accused was also ordered to pay €250 towards the cost of a place on the course.

The case was adjourned until May 8th to allow McLaughlin to do the course.
