A lifelong Derry City fan has had his dreams come true by winning a weekend break to the FAI Cup Final.

John-Paul Fahey, 22 from Shantallow was the lucky winner of the Derry News FAI Cup Final Weekend in Dublin competition.

John won tickets for two to see Derry City play St. Patrick’s Athletic in the FAI Cup Final at the Aviva Stadium this Sunday along with a two night stay at The Regency Hotel in Dublin.

Derry City will meet St. Patrick’s Athletic at the Aviva Stadium, hoping to win the FAI Cup for the sixth time and thousands of City fans are expected to descend on Dublin for the highly-anticipated final.

John-Paul told us how thrilled he was to win the tickets.

“It was total disbelief when I got the call, I had forgotten that I had even entered!” he said.

“Even when I got the call I hadn’t twigged it was about the competition and thought it may be about something else.

"When I realised it was a complete shock.”

“I’m a massive Derry City fan and have been going to the Brandywell since the late 90’s. I got my season ticket in 2000 and have rarely missed a game since.

“I already had my tickets bought for the final but it’s been a great surprise to win this so now they will have to go to someone else. I go to the games with my brother and father so I think I will have to take my father with me to the hotel.”

He added: “A good result on Sunday would be the icing on the cake.”
