Translink is to consider introducing a late night bus service from Derry city to serve the greater South Derry area.

SDLP councillor in South Derry, Martin Kearney, has welcomed a commitment from the transport company to look at the possibility of extending the service, stating the absence of such a service did not facilitate or encourage people from the South Derry area to advantage of the many social events and facilities available in the city.

The last bus currently leaves Derry at 10.00pm.

Cllr Kearney, who had been in contact Translink's Western Area Manager,  said he was hopeful his representations would result in a "more accommodating" service for the people of South Derry who wanted to socialise in the city wiithout the inconvenience of driving.
