John McAreavey whose wife was murdered while they honeymooned in Mauritius five years ago is to speak at a “7 Day Lenten Focus” taking place this week in St Mary’s Church, Bellaghy, Co Derry.
Michaela McAreavey, the 27-year-old daughter of Tyrone county football manager Mickey Harte, was found strangled in the bathtub in the couple’s hotel on 10 January 2011.
Two hotel workers, accused of her murder, were tried and acquitted by the Supreme Court of Mauritius on 12 July the following year.
The “7 Day Lenten” Focus offers the congregation “prayerful reflection.
Each morning, Mass will be celebrated at 6.30am and 9.30am while each evening at 7.30pm there will be a short moment of prayerful reflection followed by a guest speaker talking about how their faith has shaped their life journey.
As well as John McAreavy, speakers include former BBC NI political correspondent, Martina Purdy, who has become a nun.
