A famous church designed by a Derry architect is undergoing a massive restoration.
St Aengus’ Church in Burt on the main Derry to Letterkenny road opened in 1967.
It is regarded as an architectural gem among Irish churches.
The local church was designed by Derry-born Liam McCormick who is described as the father of modern Irish church architecture.
He designed a total of 27 churches.
With time and the effects of the elements, this landmark St Aengus Church is in urgent need of restoration.
To this end, under the direction of architect, Carl Petterson, a team of dedicated and skilled builders have begun the sensitive restoration to the external fabric of this much loved national treasure.
Phase one will cost approximately €200,000.
