Mid Ulster residents encouraged to 'Love Local'

Mid Ulster District Council is once again encouraging residents to give a big thank you to local businesses by stepping out on this year’s Small Business Saturday, on December 3, to support local businesses in their time of need, and show how much they love local traders.

Part of a national campaign Small Business Saturday aims to encourage people to support local traders and businesses by looking at what’s on their doorsteps before opting to travel to major towns and cities or go online.

Chair of Mid Ulster District Council, Councillor Córa Corry is supporting Small Business Saturday this year.

“The spotlight that the campaign brings in celebrating small businesses and encouraging people to shop locally and support small firms in their communities is more vital than ever now. In Mid Ulster, we’re extremely lucky to have a wide range of high quality, locally owned, independent retailers and businesses,” she said.

“Small Business Saturday reminds us all to ‘shop local’ and support the fantastic independent shops and businesses that connect our communities.”

Small Business Saturday also marks the start of a number of initiatives by Mid Ulster District Council to encourage shoppers to visit the town centres across Mid Ulster, including Magherafelt and Maghera.

There’ll be lots of entertainment to make local town centre shopping go with a swing including street theatre, and Christmas carols and music, all happening between 12pm and 3pm each Saturday until December 17 in each town centre.

The popular 10p parking promotion will also be rolled out in Magherafelt until January 7, allowing shoppers to park for 10p for the first three hours.
