Sinn Féin's Caoimhe Archibald MLA and Councillor Kathleen McGurk have been selected by East Derry members to contest the 2027 Assembly election.
Speaking after the selection convention last night (Monday), Caoimhe Archibald MLA said: “I am honoured to once again receive the confidence of party members in East Derry. It is a privilege to represent this constituency, and I remain absolutely committed to delivering for workers, families and communities.
“At a time when people are facing rising costs, pressure on public services and a lack of investment, Sinn Féin is focused on protecting workers, supporting local businesses, expanding apprenticeships and securing good, well-paid jobs.
"My priority is ensuring East Derry gets its fair share and has a strong voice at the Executive table.”
Kathleen McGurk said: “I am delighted to have been selected to run alongside Caoimhe Archibald MLA in East Derry.
“I have worked hard as a councillor to stand up for local communities and to deliver for people on the ground. I now want to take that work to the Assembly, fighting for better public services, investment and opportunities for East Derry.”
Both candidates said the selection of a strong Sinn Féin team underlined the party’s determination to strengthen republican representation in the constituency with a strong mandate to deliver progressive change across Ireland.
Caoimhe Archibald said: “Sinn Féin is leading the way in campaigning for and delivering progressive change, north and south.
“Returning two strong and effective republican MLAs in East Derry as part of a strengthened Sinn Féin team will increase our ability to deliver for communities and ensure local priorities are reflected in Executive decision-making.”
Councillor McGurk added: “Just as I have done as a councillor, if elected to the Assembly, I will be a strong, accessible voice for local people and part of a Sinn Féin team committed to delivering for East Derry at every level of government.”
