North West Regional College’s work in Business Support has been recognised by Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council.
Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens, Councillor Oliver McMullan, met with representatives from the college at a special reception held in Council’s headquarters, Cloonavin.
NWRC was recently awarded the prestigious 2025 Queen Elizabeth prize for Education, recognising its outstanding work in business support. 
Speaking at the reception, Cllr McMullan said: “On behalf of Council, I would like to extend my congratulations to North West Regional College on their work in supporting business and enterprise over the past ten years.
“NWRC has long been recognised as a place that turns ambition into achievement, providing education and training that match skills needed in the local area. In more recent years, the work by the business support team has been commendable with the opening of five innovation centres dedicated to supporting local and regional business, developing skills, fostering innovation and driving applied research.
“The college has also trained more than 1,000 individuals, including business employees, who received upskilling, and individuals who were trained in priority skills areas for new opportunities.
“It’s clear NWRC is a jewel in our local region, and I look forward to the future with the college as a partner in our landmark growth deal delivering a multi-million pound FoodovationTM & Skills Centre.”
Leo Murphy, Principal and Chief Executive of NWRC thanked Mayor McMullan for hosting the reception for the college. He added: “The Queen Elizabeth Prize for Education award is a fantastic achievement by our Business Support staff, and recognition of the college’s commitment to supporting innovation and skills development in the region.
“We have worked with dozens of clients in the North Coast region who have told me about the impact our team of experts have made to their businesses.
“We’re eager to do more and we are delighted to be part of the Causeway Coast and Glens landmark growth deal which will see this important work grow and develop in the future.”
The Queen Elizabeth Award is widely regarded as the highest national honour in further and higher education in the UK. Prizes are presented every two years following a rigorous and independent process of review. NWRC is part of the 2025 cohort of award winners which saw applications from more than 100 institutions.
The college’s Business Support Team was chosen for the honour, acknowledging their work partnering with more than 400 businesses annually through applied research, skills, and workforce development.
