Awakening - free family events celebrating Culture, Community and the Return of Light in Co Derry

The Causeway Mummers will provide music in both centres.

Causeway Coast and Glens Arts Services is delighted to invite families to Awakening | A Celebration of Light, Together, a free, family-friendly celebration marking the arrival of spring and the return of brighter days.

Taking place at Flowerfield Arts Centre and Roe Valley Arts & Cultural Centre in February, these vibrant celebrations offer children and families the chance to enjoy a range of drop-in creative experiences, running throughout the afternoon.

Flowerfield Arts Centre, Portstewart takes place on Saturday, February 7 from 3pm to 5pm and  Roe Valley Arts & Cultural Centre, Limavady takes place on Thursday, February 12 from 3pm to 5pm.

Inspired in part by Chinese New Year and the Celtic festival of Imbolc, young visitors can explore craft activities rooted in different cultural traditions, encouraging curiosity, shared learning and a warm welcome for all.

Activities include Imbolc-themed decorations, St Brigid’s crosses, dragon puppets and lantern-making, alongside opportunities to record and capture their wishes for the year ahead, creating small keepsakes filled with hope, intention and imagination.

The centres will come alive with walkabout music from the Causeway Mummers, and visitors will also have the chance to meet St Brigid, learning about her story and the symbolism of renewal and new beginnings celebrated at Imbolc.

Each event concludes with an outdoor fire performance by Firepoise at 5pm, bringing warmth, movement and spectacular finale.

These activities have been supported by The Executive Office through Causeway Coast & Glens Borough Council’s Good Relations Programme.

Families are invited to drop-in and celebrate creativity, community, and the seasonal awakening together.
