Dungiven woman convicted of fraudulently claiming over £40k in benefits

The woman has been ordered to repay the money.

A County Derry woman has been convicted at Antrim Crown Court for fraudulently claiming over £44,000 in benefits.

Georgina Maxwell (66), of Boveveagh Road, Dungiven, claimed Universal Credit totalling £44,665 whilst making a false declaration regarding excess capital.

She was given eight months’ imprisonment suspended for two years.

The fraud was uncovered following an investigation by the Department for Communities.

Mrs Maxwell is also required to repay any outstanding monies wrongfully obtained to the Department.
