A County Derry business is undertaking a special Christmas charity collection in memory of a young girl from Castledawson who died earlier this year.

Bellaghy-based pizza shop Diamond Slice is collecting pyjamas for sick children in hospital up until December 15.

The collection, which was launched yesterday (Monday), is inspired by the late Caitlin-Rose McMullan, who tragically lost her life earlier this year when she was knocked down by a car moments after exiting her school bus near Castledawson.

The 11 year-old, who was a pupil at St Pius X College in Magherafelt, was rushed to hospital where she sadly died.

Caitlin-Rose’s mum Stella explained: “When my daughter passed away we were offered PJs or a small night dress to put on her. Unfortunately the PJs were too small so we went with the dress, so this will help families be able to put them in something nice.”

Stella and her friend Lorraine Mulgrew, of Diamond Slice, are planning to donate the pyjamas to the Royal Victoria Hospital for Sick Children and are appealing for people to support the campaign and bring comfort and smiles to those spending the festive season in hospital.

Please if you can spare any, it would be beautiful in memory of my amazing daughter Caitlin Rose McMullan,” added Stella.

You can help by donating new pyjamas (sizes up to age 16) or by contributing towards the cost.

Drop off points are in the following locations - Fullan’s in Portglenone, Diamond Slice in Bellaghy, Toome Pharmacy, Lavey Shop, Drumsurn GAC, Chic N Cut in Bellaghy, St Colm’s GAC in Drum, Ballinascreen GAC and Nora & Katie in Dungiven.

Alternatively contact Lorraine on 07821670544 or through Diamond Slice’s Facebook page.
