Sinn Féin MP Cathal Mallaghan has praised the vital work of Hope Magherafelt in supporting local families and tackling poverty.
During a visit, the Mid Ulster MP met with Project Manager Rachel McClure, Ruth Carson from CAP and volunteers to discuss the challenges facing families and the importance of community based support.
Cathal Mallaghan said: “Hope Magherafelt is a community hub that brings people together. Whether that’s tackling loneliness through their welcoming cafe, supporting families who are struggling to put food on the table, or signposting people to vital services.
“The compassion and commitment of staff and volunteers shown here is inspiring, but it’s also a reminder that no one should have to rely on food banks in 2025.
“While the British government may have changed its clothes, it has not yet changed its approach to the two-child limit, one of the biggest drivers of child poverty.
“Sinn Féin is calling for this cruel policy to be scrapped immediately. Every child deserves the best start in life."
