Claudy pensioner handed suspended sentence for £13k benefit fraud

The fraud was uncovered following an investigation by the Department for Communities

£250,000 fraud case involving Donegal woman adjourned at Derry Magistrate's Court

The case was heard at Derry Magistrates' Court.

One person was convicted at Derry Magistrates’ Court today for claiming over £13,000 in benefits he was not entitled to.

Esmund Temple (69), of Irwin Crescent, Claudy, claimed Universal Credit totalling £13,560 whilst failing to declare capital.

He was given three months imprisonment suspended for 12 months.

The fraud was uncovered following an investigation by the Department for Communities.

The money wrongfully obtained by Mr Temple has been repaid to the Department in full.
