A Derry woman who attempted to turn her car on a railway level crossing in County Derry was found to be three times the legal limit.
Andrea Rostami, of Woodlands Avenue, appeared before Limavady Magistrates’ Court earlier today charged with driving with excess alcohol.
The court heard that the 38 year-old was driving on the Seacoast Road outside Limavady on June 9 when police received a report from a member of the public who believed that the defendant was intoxicated due to the manner of her driving.
Rostami continued to drive on the Seacoast Road before attempting to turn the vehicle on a level crossing between Benone and Downhill.
The member of the public who had been travelling behind Rostami stopped her and took the vehicle’s keys off her.
When police arrived at the scene they noticed that Rostami’s speech was slurred and she was unsteady on her feet.
An evidential breath test returned a reading of 105mg - three times the legal limit.
Rostami’s solicitor Keith Kyle said his client had been travelling to Portrush for a family holiday.
He stated that Rostami, who the court heard had been drinking the previous evening, had not planned to drive however plans changed following a disagreement with a family member.
Mr Kyle went onto say that Rostami is heavily involved in a family business that employs more than 20 people.
“The loss of her licence will have a profound effect on every aspect of her life,” he added.
District Judge Peter King disqualified Rostami from driving for two years and fined her £350.
