The late Stan Heron (inset) will be laid to rest today (Friday).

One of the founders of a County Derry construction and property development company, who died earlier this week, will be laid to rest today.

James Francis Stanislaus (Stan) Heron passed away on Tuesday, July 8.

The Draperstown man was one of six brothers who founded the family-owned business Heron Bros back in 1956.

The company quickly grew and diversified to reflect their keen interests in construction, land and property development, specialist joinery manufacture, quarrying and building supplies.  Between 1983 and 1985, Heron Bros grew to become the largest private landlord of industrial land in Northern Ireland.

The award winning construction and property development company which operates throughout the UK, Ireland and Europe is now approaching its 70th year and employs more than 250 people.

A death notice states that Stan is the ‘beloved husband of the late Patsy and loving father of Seamus and Anne-Marie, father in law of Regina and grandfather of Carla and Ella, son of the late James and Mary Ann and brother of Rosemary, John, Michael, Brigid, Charlie, Brian, Austin, Kathleen, Terence and the late Paddy’.

Mr Heron’s funeral will take place today (Friday, July 11) at 2pm in Church of St Columba Straw.

The death notice added: “Deeply regretted by his large family circle and his former directors and colleagues as one of the founders of the Heron Bros Group, Draperstown.”
