A Derry woman has been sentenced to community service after being convicted of assault on police, criminal damage and possession of drugs.

Kirsty Temple, of Claremont House, Richmond Avenue, was charged with committing the offences on March 19.

Limavady Magistrates’ Court heard that police were called to the Jet Centre in Coleraine following a third party report in relation to an alleged domestic incident in the car park.

The court heard that police also received a second report from Temple who claimed that she had been assaulted.

When police spoke to Temple and the other occupant of the vehicle, they both denied the physical assault however they stated that there had been an argument.

Temple was subsequently escorted from the scene in a police vehicle and during the journey she produced a bag containing class B drugs and handed it over to officers.

A short time later she became irate and began spitting in the vehicle.

The court heard that some spit landed on the neck of the police officer who was driving the vehicle.

District Judge Peter King sentenced Temple to 100 hours community service and ordered her to pay compensation of £200 to the police officer.
