A man who is accused of causing grievous bodily harm by dangerous driving has appeared before Limavady Magistrates' Court this morning.

Steven McArthur, whose address was given on court papers as Castle Gardens in Limavady, is charged with committing the offence within the vicinity of Main Street, Dungiven on February 18.

The court heard that 58 year-old McArthur resides in America and intends to return there soon.

An investigating officer told the court that McArthur is not subject to any bail conditions and as he has 'very strong links to the jurisdiction' police are satisfied that he will return.

District Judge Peter King advised that 'it is going to be an extremely long time before we are in a position to do anything meaningful in the case'.

McArthur was released on bail of £5,000 and a cash surety of £5,000.

The case was adjourned until March 26.
