PSNI vow to continue high visibility patrols in Kilrea area following reports of 'suspicious' person

The PSNI have confirmed they have completed high visibility patrols in Kilrea and surrounding areas following reports of a person acting suspiciously.

The increased patrols come days after a video was uploaded to social media showing an individual reportedly walking on roads in the area during the early hours of the morning wearing a mask and a long yellow coat.
In the video, the individual in question is challenged by a motorist who asks them why they are wearing a mask and what they are doing.
Social media reports last night claimed that the same individual was spotted in the Maghera, Clady and Portglenone areas.

This morning, Coleraine B Section confirmed that they had completed high visibility patrols during the night across Kilrea, Rasharkin and Dunloy following reports of a suspicious person.

"This will be continued throughout the upcoming weeks and we ask the public to continue to report any concerns they may have or any suspicious persons or vehicles sighted to 101, 999 in an emergency and our online reporting tool," said a PSNI spokesperson.

Following the PSNI's post on social media, members of the public have reacted with some describing the video as 'a prank'.

Others are not as convinced.

One Facebook user wrote: "Thanks to the police for taking it seriously and checking for this man for the safety of the public."
