Council works with local groups to help reduce dog fouling and fly tipping

Representatives from Council have met with the Northern Ireland Environmental Quality Forum in Ballycastle.

The meeting, which was held last week, included representatives from Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, the other 11 district Councils and Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful.

The forum gives all involved an opportunity to discuss ways to enforce environmental regulations and help deal with the problem with dog fouling and fly tipping in Council areas.

This conference also explored how Councils can best engage with education and awareness programmes, with the aim of reducing incidences of dog fouling, littering and fly tipping.

The Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens, Councillor Ciarán McQuillan said: “Causeway Coast and Glens is known to be one of the most picturesque areas in Northern Ireland and it is important that both locals and visitors respect out beautiful countryside and dispose of their litter, in whatever form, in the correct manner. 

“Thank you to the members of the Northern Ireland Environmental Quality Forum for highlighting this serious issue.

“Thank you also to the Council officers, partner Council’s and Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful for participating in these important discussions.”

New signage has been put in place in the Borough to highlight the importance of correctly disposing dog foul and litter. These signs highlight the fact that anyone caught committing one of these offences will be subject to a Fixed Penalty Notice of £200.
