Roads closed in County Derry town as police investigate reports of two security alerts

Sinn Féin Councillor Sean McGlinchey has described the Dungiven security alerts as 'unwelcome'

Police have received reports of two security alerts in Dungiven this evening, Saturday, February 24.

The Foreglen Road is currently closed at the junction of Ballyhanedin Road and the Legavallon Road is also closed at the junction of Curragh Road.

Diversions are currently in place and the public is asked to avoid the areas at this time and seek an alternative route for their journey.

A PSNI spokesperson said a further update will be issued in due course.

Sinn Féin Councillor Sean McGlinchey tonight told the County Derry Post that he understands that a newspaper received a 'coded message' stating that two viable devices have been left in the area.

He has described these incidents as 'unwelcome' in the north Derry town.
