NWRC trainees receive £1k scholarships from The Honourable The Irish Society

Three students studying traineeships at North West Regional College’s (NWRC) Greystone Campus, have each been presented with a scholarship worth £1,000 by The Honourable the Irish Society.
This is the second year of the scholarships which offer financial support to students at NWRC during their training. Four students from the college’s Springtown Campus were also awarded a scholarship.
This week the Irish Society’s Duane Farrell and Edward Montgomery visited the college’s campuses at Springtown and Greystone to meet the students and have a tour of the campus facilities.
Mr Farrell, Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of The Honourable The Irish Society said: “We are delighted to be here for the second year presenting the Irish Society scholarships to trainees from NWRC. For many years the Society has been
investing in communities in the North West and these scholarships will provide support to our young people on their training journey. Today we had an opportunity to meet these young people and see the facilities they are learning in.
We look forward to supporting more young people in the years ahead and hearing of their successes.”
The Irish Society scholarships, each worth £1,000, are open to students enrolled at the college’s campuses on a Level 2 traineeship in: Brickwork, Carpentry and Joinery, Painting and Decorating, Engineering (Fabrication and Welding), Motor Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, Motor Light Vehicle Body Repair and Wall and Floor Tiling.
This year’s recipients are:

Kevin Conlon – Tiling, Sean McCauley - Motor Vehicle,
Calum Devlin – Fabrication and Welding, Caiden Kyle – Light Vehicle Body Repair,
Bradley Mellon – Carpentry and Joinery, Rebecca Maxwell – Motor Vehicle, and
Rebecca Gavigan – Tiling.
Samantha Traynor, Head of Training and Skills at NWRC said: “On behalf of the college I would like to thank The Honourable the Irish Society for this support they have offered to our students in Crafts.
“This year we had almost 70 applications for the scholarships and I congratulate all of our trainees who put themselves forward. Successful students have demonstrated an excellent attendance rate on their traineeship programme of
study, as well as on and off-the-job training.
“At our campuses, we offer a wide range of courses to support students achieve their career ambitions training young people for in-demand careers across Northern Ireland. We look forward to hearing the success stories of all these students and meeting them in the future.”
