The Derry Branch - Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign (DIPSC)is planning a protest highlighting the number of journalists  killed by Israel in Gaza since October 7.

The protest will take place outside BBC Radio Foyle, on Saturday, January 20, at 1.00pm.

According to Catherine Hutton, chair of DIPSC, the protest will also "challenge the BBC on its coverage of the Genocide in Gaza".

She added: "The BBC has failed to cover the ongoing pogroms in the West Bank and there has been a lack of coverage of the South African complaint of genocide against Israel to the International Court of Justice.

"The following day, Israel's defence was livestreamed. Gaza is now the deadliest place on Earth for media workers. By some estimates, over 110 journalists have been killed there since Israel began its assault on the territory following the October 7 Hamas attack, and the Committee to Protect Journalists says more journalists were killed in the first 10 weeks of the war than have ever been killed in a single country over an entire year.

"Israel is killing journalists in Gaza to stop the truth about its atrocities, war crimes and crimes against humanity being witnessed around the world.

"The silence of the BBC towards the killing of Journalist and the ongoing genocide in Gaza is absolutely unacceptable. As TV licence payers and human beings we cannot allow this to go unchallenged. Your comrades in Gaza are dying for the truth. You owe it to them to honour their memory by telling their stories and reporting the unbiased truth of the deliberate destruction of the Palestinian population of Gaza."

Derry News has approached the BBC for comment.
