Derry Court
Derry Magistrate's Court heard today how when police approached a car as they believed the driver looked 'very young' a 16-year-old youth in the driver's seat told them he had just had a joint.
The youth was appearing before the court for driving offences and an officer said police attention was drawn to the car by the age of the driver and the fact that the tyres were defective.
When asked about the tyres the youth said 'What is it to me I am only 16'.
The officer said that there were problems in that the youth was from outside the jurisdiction, there was no bail address and the defendant had no money.
Defence counsel Dean Mooney said that the defendant was from Dublin and himself and a friend had 'gone for a drive'.
He said there had been no issues with the driving itself and the main issue was the age.
District Judge Barney McElholm sent the case to be dealt with by the youth court.
