Award winning fashion designer Aoife Harvey has been named as a finalist in Northern Ireland Women’s Awards 2023.

The awards ceremony, organised by Oceanic Events, celebrate, and recognise the outstanding achievements and contributions of women across Northern Ireland in various fields.

Finalist Aoife has been shortlisted in the ‘Achievements in STEM’ category and will find out if she has been crowned a winner at an elegant ceremony in Belfast on November 24.

Art and Design graduate Aoife Harvey, from Claudy, previously studied Art & Design at North West Regional College’s Limavady Campus (NWRC) before progressing to Ulster University where she achieved a first class honours degree in Fashion and Textiles.

Earlier this year she triumphed in the Doubleband BBC TV show ‘A Stitch Through Time’ winning the show after four weeks of competing against three other designers.

She also participated in Project Fashion at the Culloden Estate and was the only designer from Northern Ireland to take part in Northern Fashion Week in Manchester. And just last week she was a finalist in the NI Social Media awards.

Aoife said: “I am absolutely delighted to be a finalist in the NI Women awards. It’s been quite a journey to get to this point, but I feel so lucky to working in an industry that I love.

“This year has been a whirlwind and I’ve been incredibly busy. I had always posted and shared my work online as AH Designs, but I had never shown the face behind the brand. The last 12 months has given me so much confidence. I’m now running my own business AH Designs where I want to focus on producing more sustainable clothing collections and demonstrating what can be done with textile waste. I hope to launch my website soon and include a section where people can rent my clothing, which I believe is a shopping avenue that will only grow in popularity.

“The other finalists are a talented bunch and I wish everyone the best of luck for the event.”

A Spokesperson for the Northern Ireland Women’s Awards said: “We are truly humbled by the overwhelming response we received for this year’s Northern Ireland Women’s Awards. The sheer talent, resilience, and commitment exhibited by the finalists have left us in awe. Their achievements are an inspiration to women everywhere, empowering future generations to aim high and break barriers.”

The winners of the Northern Ireland Women’s Awards 2023 will be announced during a glamorous event that will take place on Friday 24th November at the La Mon Hotel & Country Club Belfast. The evening will feature captivating performances, keynote speeches, and opportunities to learn from some of Northern Ireland’s most accomplished women.
