A unique exhibition is taking place in Eden Place Arts Centre, which is housed in Pilots’ Row community centre in Derry’s Bogside.

The artwork on display was produced by members of the Rossville Group, a day opportunities scheme for adults with mild and moderate learning difficulties, facilitated by the Western Health and Social Care Trust (WHSCT).

Titled “Where The Heart Is”, the exhibition will open on Thursday, October 19 at 1pm in Eden Place Arts Centre.

The artwork focused on certain themes such as the joy of placing flowers in a vase and the feelings around giving or receiving them.

The artists worked on the theme of familiar faces and produced beautiful abstract work with bright and vibrant colours.

Members also created a colourful display of a selection of houses, which evoked feelings around home, security and spending time with family, friends and those most important to us in every-day life.

The work will be displayed in the form of paintings, canvases and fabrics.

Vanessa Campbell, Senior Day Care Worker, said: “We are very proud of this work and of our members who used their skills to produce this very talented display.

“The exhibition will boost their confidence and motivate us all to progress with our skills and abilities through the medium of arts and crafts”.

Arts Centre Co-ordinator Judi Logue said: “We are very excited to once again adorn our gallery space with the vibrant work of The Rossville Group.

“This stunning exhibition is bursting with colour and fun, all are welcome to the launch to celebrate this wonderful work, if you miss the launch it will be on display until 26th October.”

Lizzie Devlin, Community Arts Officer of the Arts Council: “The Arts Council is pleased to support the work of Eden Place and the fantastic array of workshops and events they provide for individuals and community groups throughout the year.

“This latest exhibition will be a chance to celebrate the work of The Rossville Group, as they share some of the pieces they have created as part of this wonderfully uplifting creative project. Congratulations to everyone involved!”

Eden Place Arts Centre is supported by the National Lottery through the Arts Council of Northern Ireland.
