Derry Magistrate's Court heard today how a man was detected breaking into cars and homes in the Coshquin Road area of the city.
Jordan Leighton (23) of Beechill View in Drumahoe who admitted a series of charges relating to offences on May 13 last year.
The court heard that police were called to a 999 call from a householder who said that someone was breaking into their house.
A rear patio door had been smashed and a packet of paracetamol was found lying on the kitchen floor.
Police then discovered that the rear patio door had been smashed in another nearby house and a male was seen making his way across a nearby road.
A further report alerted police to a break in where windows were smashed and car keys were taken.
CCTV was utilised and Leighton was identified.
The defendant was apprehended and in a search the missing car keys were found in his pocket.
Another car was broken into and CCTV identified Leighton as being in the yard of the house.
Defence counsel Sean Doherty said that Leighton had been released from prison but subsequently had his licence revoked.
Leighton was jailed for four months.
