Derry artist, Naomi Arbuthnot, has been nominated for two awards at the upcoming Mighty Women NI Awards in June.

The fine art printmaker and artist based in Derry started her business in 2020, shortly after graduating from university where she studied Fine Art Printmaking at Belfast School of Art.

Naomi then started ‘Naomi Prints’ as an Instagram and Facebook account to showcase her printmaking processes and since then, her business and profile has grown from strength to strength.

Speaking to Derry News, Naomi said: "I started selling work through Instagram direct messages and now I have a website and sell my prints in several galleries in Ireland.

"I’m also a Fine Art Printmaker and course facilitator at the Derry Print Workshop. My work has been exhibited in the Royal Ulster Academy of Arts Annual Exhibition three times and in London at Southbank Mini Print Exhibition"

Naomi's work is a combination of traditional and contemporary printmaking disciplines, including linocut, and silk-screen printing created using hand-drawn stencils

The 27 year old said she couldn’t believe the news when Mighty Women NI reached out and said that she had been nominated for two awards; ‘Mighty Women in Business’ and ‘Mighty Women in the Arts.'

Mighty Women NI hosts awards and events across the country to bring women, and men, together to network and to celebrate successes together.

Mighty Women NI is an empowering community which works to promote and celebrate successful women across the country.

Naomi continued: "I was so surprised to find out I’m a finalist and I’m so excited.

"Being a young artist is full of challenges and there’s been many rejections so being nominated for something like this means a great deal to me.

"I’ve won a few awards while studying at North West Regional College and Belfast School of Art but this is the first award I’ve been nominated for since I started my business.

"I’m incredibly grateful for everyone who has supported me as an artist."
