Sinn Féin call for urgent action to prevent Foyle Road flooding.
Sinn Féin has called for urgent action to prevent Foyle Road flooding.
According to Pádraig Delargy MLA, multi-agency action is needed now to address repeated flooding incidents in the Foyle Road area.
His coments came following a Sinn Féin delegation meetings with a range of agencies this week to seek progress in the issue.
Mr Delargy said: “Local Sinn Féin Councillor Patricia Logue and I met with NIWater, Council and the Department of Infrastructure to demand urgent action to deal with persistent flooding at Foyle Road.
“There are a number of potential measures which can and should be taken to reduce the flooding risk and they need to be actioned now.
“In particular, residents need to see the proposed scheme to deal with tidal flooding implemented immediately, more regular clearing of drains and full emergency measures including increased availability of sandbags put in place now before potential heavy rain this summer
“There needs to be a multiagency approach to deal with this issue now. It cannot wait until flooding causes another crisis situation. Residents deserve better and we will continue standing with them until it is resolved.”
