The Local Elections will see a total of 462 councillors elected to 11 local councils across the North of Ireland.
40 of those will be elected onto Derry City and Strabane District Council.

Derry City and Strabane District Council comprises seven wards: Ballyarnett, Derg, Faughan, Foyleside, Sperrin, The Moor, and Waterside.
Today we take a closer look at each of the wards.
The overall turnout in Derry City and Strabane District Council electoral area for 2019 Local Government Election was 56.21% with a total of 60,695 valid votes cast. A total of 1,103 ballots were rejected.
The Moor
The Moor comprises four district electoral areas: Brandywell, City Walls, Creggan, and Creggan South. It has 5 seats.
In 2014, it returned 3 Sinn Féin, 1 SDLP and 1 Independent candidate.
In 2019, it returned 2 Sinn Féin, 1 SDLP, 1 People Before Profit and 1 Independent candidate. People Before Profit gained a seat from Sinn Féin.
There are nine candidates standing in The Moor. They are: Cllr John Boyle (SDLP); Christy Darryl (Aontú); Gary Donnelly (Independent); Michael Downey (Alliance); Sean Dermott Henderson (SDLP); Aisling Hutton (Sinn Féin); Cllr Patricia Logue (Sinn Féin); Cllr Emma McGinley (Sinn Féin); Cllr Maeve O’Neill (People Before Profit).
In 2019, the total number of the Moor electorate was 13,114. There were 7,748 (59.08%) valid votes cast. There were 169 spoilt votes and the quota was set at 1,292 votes.
The first preference tallies were: Gary Donnelly (Independent) 1,374 votes (elected); Eamonn McCann (People Before Profit) 1,035 votes (elected); Tina Burke (Sinn Féin) 738 votes (elected); John Boyle (SDLP) 1,082 votes (elected); Patricia Logue (Sinn Féin) 778 votes (elected); Cathay Breslin (SDLP) 669 votes; Kevin Campbell (Sinn Féin) 712 votes; Sharon Duddy (Sinn Féin) 594 votes; Emmet Doyle (Independent) 496 votes; Niree McMorris (DUP) 148 votes; and Colm Cavanagh (Alliance) 122 votes.
In the Moor Ward there were two changes during the Council term. On March 22, 2021, Cllr Eamonn McCann (People Before Profit) resigned and Maeve O’Neill (People Before Profit) was co-opted as his replacement. On August 3, 2021, Cllr Tina Burke (Sinn Féin) resigned and Emma McGinley (Sinn Féin) was co-opted as her replacement.
