People Before Profit's Maeve O'Neill and Shaun Harkin 'a thorn in the side of big parties' - Eamonn McCann
People Before Profit is urging voters come out to send the message they have had enough of cuts and division.
In a statement, Eamonn McCann said voters have a simple choice on May 18.
Eamonn McCann said: "On May 18th voters have a simple choice. They can vote for parties who have been running the show, raised rates and implemented austerity. Parties who have stood by as the cost for living went up and up.
“Or they can vote for a party who will stand up for them. A party that has refused to vote for rates increases. A party that has campaigned for local services and has stood on picket lines with workers across the sectarian divide.
“If voters stay at home nothing will change. The big parties will continue with business as usual and implement cuts across the board.
"People Before Profit Councillors, Maeve O'Neill in The Moor and Shaun Harkin in Foyleside have been a thorn in the side of big parties and have demonstrated the role socialist campaigners can play as elected representatives. That's why Sinn Féin, the SDLP and the rest of the political establishment are targeting their seats. They want all criticism shutdown. They want all alternatives shutdown," said Eamonn McCann.
He added: "For that reason it's critical they are re-elected. And I urge voters to vote in more People Before Profit representatives and more fighters across the Derry and Strabane Council District.
"It’s time to strike back with People Before Profit. A vote for People Before Profit will send a clear message that people have had enough of cuts and division.
"It will send a message that water charges, prescription charges and increased tuition fees are not acceptable. Voters should put People Before Profit Number 1 on May 18th.”
