Bloody Sunday Trust extends solidarity to the Stardust Families.

Derry's Bloody Sunday Trust has extended its solidarity to the Stardust families, as the inquest into the deaths of their loved ones began in Dublin.

Today saw jury selection, the start of the inquest process into the deaths of 48 people in the fire in the Stardust nightclub in Dublin in 1981.

Maeve Mc Laughlin, Director of the Bloody Sunday Trusts said: "These families have been let down by successive Irish Government in securing truth and justice for their loved ones.  Today we see the first step in the legal process which will hopefully deliver justice for these families.

"There is a strong bond between the Bloody Sunday Families and the Stardust families over many years and we will walk with them every step of the way.

"In a symbol of solidarity we have erected a plaque in the Museum of Free Derry with all the names of the 48 people who lost their lives."

Antionette Keegan who lost two of her sisters in the fire said: "Monday 17th April will be a big day for the families of the deceased victims, this will be the start of the Stardust Inquest.

"This will be happening at Croke Park at 9am with 3,000 people have been summonsed for Jury Selection, of which a total of 15 will be picked.

"Families of the deceased victims will also be in attendance for Monday 17th and the 18th while the process of the Jury is being selected.

"The families will meet on Clonliffe Road and walk together up to Jones Road at 9.30. The families are then required to be in attendance for 9.45 am inside Croke Park “
