Sets céilí fundraiser for First Housing Aid and Support Services.
Set dancers from all over Ireland will descend on Derry shortly for a very special event in aid of Mayor Sandra Duffy’s chosen charity, First Housing Aid and Support Services.
Established in 1989, First Housing Aid and Support Services offers specialist accommodation projects for young people leaving care, young parents and people suffering alcohol abuse who are sleeping rough. The charity also provides professional advice on housing in the North and solutions to people who find themselves in housing difficulties.
Speaking to Derry News, Joe Quinn from Derry Set Dancing Club said they were delighted to approach Mayor Duffy with the idea of organising a fundraising sets céilí for her chosen charity and she had been very supportive.
Joe said: “Our sets céilí is taking place in the Guildhall on Sunday, May 7, 2023, from 3.00pm to 6.00pm.
“Music will be provided by inimitable Killarney box player, Neily O’Connor and admission is £10 (€12), which includes a light supper. Everybody is very, very welcome. It will be a great afternoon’s craic for an extremely deserving charity.
“So, if you have music in your soul and dancing in your soles, we’ll see you in the Guildhall next month, where we will definitely be dancing the Derry Set, written by the late, great Frankie Roddy, of ‘Rock Around the Clock Fame.'"
