Derry Girl Amie crowned Irish Dancing World Champion

18 year old Amie has been dancing from just three years old

Derry Girl, Amie Donaghey, has been crowned Irish Dancing World Champion.  

The 18 year old, who attends Derry's Harkin-McGinley Academy, gained her fifth world title on Friday April 9 at the An Chomhdhail competition held in the Gleneagle INEC Arena, Killarney.
Amie has been dancing from just three years old and whilst competing over the last eight years, has never placed below second place.
Speaking to Derry News, Amie's proud mum, Orlaith, said Amie has remained humble despite her incredible success and is the hardest working person she knows, "Amie takes everything in her stride," Orlaith said.

"She had bad injuries in October and was really suffering with shin splints, she could barely walk but she got on stage and got on with it.
"She placed second in the Ulster Championships. Despite being in pain, she never missed a practice; every night she was dancing. She is so dedicated. She rested up and managed to win her fifth title last week."
Amie continues to train daily and is preparing for a chance to be part of Riverdance. Orlaith said this is her daughter's dream.
Orlaith continued: "To travel the world with Riverdance, that is her dream. She is going to a summer camp to train so fingers crossed. She will also be training for the Ulsters again in October.
"We never stop but her success is a credit to her hard work, she is so hardworking. Many people think when you're a winner, you have to be a certain way but Amie is so pleasant and helps everyone where she can. 
"She eats, sleeps and breathes dance, it is her life. It always has been and I think it always will be. We are all so proud of her."
