There’s no business like show business and there’s no dance like a show dance, which is what Derry’s Damian McGinty and his partner Kaylee Vincent in Dancing With the Stars: The Final.

Airing on Sunday on RTÉ One at 6.30pm, Damian and Kaylee are dancing to the Shawn Mendes hit, Take a Look at Us Now.

Speaking to Derry news, Damian described the Show Dance as a “mixture” of everything.

“Mainly it is a Broadway Jazz type dance,” said Damian. “It involves a mixture of different styles. It is an algorithm of our whole Dancing With the Stars experience so far.”

With his whole family in the audience for last week’s semi-final, Damian said he found the results segment of the programme “unreal”.

“I just couldn’t believe it. Looking around, there were so few of us left. We knew there were only four couples going through to the final but there were five of us waiting on the results. It felt really tough. 

“But, everything fell into place for Kylee and me on Sunday night and it was really good. Everything went well. So, whenever my  name was called out, I was  absolutely delighted and really grateful for all the support we have received.

“Looking forward to Sunday, I am more excited at the minute. I am not too nervous, yet. It feels like we have nothing to lose anymore. We are in the final. 

“Overall, Dancing With the Stars has been such a great experience. It has been so positive. I can’t say enough good things about the experience. We have made the final and wouldn’t say the pressure’s off but we can definitely enjoy it now because the whole journey is over on Sunday night. I think it is important now to enjoy it and embrace it,” said Damian.

Damian added that he was grateful for all the support Kylee and he have received to date.

Smiling he said: “One last push this week and we could be bringing the glitterball trophy back to Derry. 

“We were up at the schools last week and doing interviews this week with the Derry media and everybody is just unbelievably supportive. They are so behind us.

“My mother and father will be back up in Dublin on Sunday, as well as my wife, Anna Claire.

“Sunday night will be one of those occasions which don’t come around very often. It is really special and I am really looking forward to it. I am very excited.

“We are ready to give it everything we have.”

Dancing with the Stars airs on Sunday, on RTÉ One, at 6.30pm.
