Councillor Brian McGuigan has had a positive meeting with Aircoach over the reinstatement of the Maghera stop.
Sinn Féin Councillor for Carntogher, Brian McGuigan, has this week met with Aircoach to request that the Maghera stop is reinstated on their Derry - Dublin journeys.
Following a very positive meeting with the Managing Director of Aircoach, Cllr McGuigan commented: “Following a decision to remove the stop at Maghera from the service between Derry and Dublin, I've been contacted by a number of constituents requesting that this is reconsidered.
“For a number of years during and since the pandemic, people have been travelling less, but as we make our way back to full normality, we can see that many people are starting to take holidays again.
“For local people, the aircoach service to Dublin airport was a dream to use, and therefore many have been in touch to complain about the loss of this service. Maghera Park and Ride is a very central location for people right across South Derry and beyond, and being able to jump on the bus and go right to Dublin is incredibly useful and handy.
“It's important that we improve public transport services and provide people with incentives to leave the car at home, and the reinstatement of the Aircoach stop at Maghera is an obvious one in this regard.
“I am delighted to say that Aircoach have listened to the ask, and that they are now working on a proposal to the transport authority to have Maghera readded as a stop along the route. We expect to have a decision made on this in coming months, with the service hopefully resumed by the summer. I will be following up with Aircoach to ensure that this happens.”
