Former TUC General Secretary Frances O'Grady speaking in Derry tonight.
A panel discussion on 'The State of the Unions: Where does the Trade Union movement go next?' has been organised as part of the Bloody Sunday Trust's programme commemorating the 51st anniversary of Bloody Sunday.
The event is taking place on Thursday (January 26), at 7pm, in the Museum of Free Derry in Derry's Bogside.
The panel of speakers consists of former TUC General Secretary Frances O'Grady; ICTU General Secretary Owen Reidy; NIPSA General Secretary Carmel Gates, and Derry TUC Chair Niall McCarroll. It will be chaired by Andy Bonner, Unison.
A spokesperson for The Bloody Sunday Trust said the organisation was dedicated to the legacy of the Civil Rights movement and those who died on the streets of Derry marching for jobs, votes and housing.
"51 years after Bloody Sunday, we are seeing a severe cost of living crisis with people freezing in their homes and having to choose between rent, heating or food, alongside workers across many sectors fighting for decent conditions and pay after more than a decade of Conservative rule.
"Coupled with current efforts in Westminster to strip workers of the right to strike, a fundamental democratic right, the demand for jobs, votes and housing is as urgent as ever. Featuring Trade Union leaders from across Ireland and the UK, this event will look at the current situation facing workers across these islands and where the Trade Union movement is headed."
