Progress with on street residential chargepoints across Derry welcomed

Charging points

Sinn Féin Waterside Councillor Christopher Jackson has welcomed an update from Derry City and Strabane District Council on efforts to progress new on street residential chargepoints across the council area.

Councillor Jackson said: “The number of electric vehicles using our roads is rising every year as people move towards greener and more sustainable transport.

“This is a step in the right direction in tackling our climate crisis.

“It is hugely frustrating for the growing cohort of owners of electric vehicles, however, that our chargepoint network in the north is not meeting the growth in demand.

“So it's welcome news that progress is being made by the Council to help assist with proposals for the installation of charge points at new locations across the council area.

“I look forward to seeing this work come to fruition.  The scheme will provide 14 additional charging points at key locations across the city and district, the majority of these new charging points are planned to be located at community facilities in the heart of local areas, making them easily accessible to those that need to use them.”
