A man who spat at police in Derry has been jailed at the local Magistrate's Court today.

Daniel Greer (25) of Dacre Terrace in Derry admitted charges of assault on police and disorderly behaviour that occurred on April 26 last year.

The court heard that police were in attendance at Rockmills in the city and had contact with Greer.

He became disorderly by shouting and swearing and then spat at one officer.

Defence counsel Brendan Kearney told the court that his client had engaged in 'unacceptable behaviour'.

He said that at the time Greer was having problems with drugs and now regrets his actions.

Greer was sentenced to 3 months in prison.
