Heartfelt tributes have been paid to a County Derry man who died following a tragic fall last week.
Michael Cassidy, a retired builder, died on Tuesday evening after he fell from a roof at a property in Clady.
At Michael’s funeral, which was held in St Oliver Plunkett’s Church, Greenlough at the weekend, mourners heard how the dad and grandad helped to build churches, public buildings and a hospital over the years.
Fr. Oliver Crilly said: “When we think about building and about the practical and physical side to it, that Mickey did so well, it becomes a wonderful metaphor for Mickey’s life, the life that he had built with his wife Rita, and the family that they built together.
“It also becomes a metaphor for the value of Mickey’s work, his skill and dedication and the contribution that he made to the local community.”
SDLP councillor Martin Kearney, who knew Mickey personally, described him as ‘kind-hearted’.
He said: “Mickey was a modest, gentle and kind-hearted father and grandfather who was devoted to his family and faith.”
