Derry hosts vital falls prevention summit for Positive Ageing Month

Western Trust and Council team up to help Derry’s older residents stay active and independent
The Western Health & Social Care Trust (Western Trust) in partnership with the Public Health Agency and Derry City and Strabane District Council hosted a very successful Falls Awareness Information Talk at the Foyle Arena on 13 October 2026 as part of Positive Ageing Month.
Ann Marie Conlon, Falls Integrated Pathway Co-ordinator at the Western Trust said: “Thank you to everyone who attended the Falls Awareness Talk this week as part of the programme of events for Positive Ageing Month.
“Delivered through the Physical Activity Referral Programme in collaboration with the Council and the Age Friendly Co-ordinator, the session provided valuable information on reducing the risk of falls, maintaining independence, and staying active in later life.
“Attendees also learned about the importance of having a plan in place to prevent a prolonged lie should a fall occur and help is not immediately available.
Ann Marie added: “Events like these highlight the value of partnership working in supporting healthier, safer, and more active ageing. By working together, we are helping older people to remain independent, confident, connected, and active within their communities, enabling them to live well and age positively.
