Health Minister must urgently engage with BMA following announcement of strike action - Ciara Ferguson

Foyle MLA Ciara Ferguson (Sinn Féin) has said the Health Minister must urgently engage in meaningful negotiations with the British Medical Association (BMA) following the announcement of strike action dates by resident doctors, consultants and SAS doctors.
Ms Ferguson said: “Resident doctors have announced a 24-hour full walkout on Friday, November 20. Consultants and SAS doctors will also take industrial action, providing limited cover for a 24-hour period on Monday, November 23.
“The Health Minister must urgently engage with the BMA and make every effort to secure a resolution to this dispute.
“If an agreement cannot be reached, there is a very real risk of placing even greater pressure on already overstretched emergency services.
“Patients and frontline healthcare workers are already facing unacceptable pressures and lengthy waiting times. Any escalation of industrial action, particularly during the winter period, will only add to those challenges.
“A fair and sustainable resolution must be found that meets the needs of healthcare workers while ensuring patients continue to receive the care they deserve.”
