A Derry man who offered shelter to a couple has spoken of how they left him for dead after a brutal assault where he was knocked unconscious.

Eddie O’Hagan was attacked after he answered his door to the couple on Saturday night during bad weather.

The 49-year-old then invited the couple into his home, offering them shelter.

However, the couple then launched a frenzied attack on Mr O’Hagan, who lives alone.

Indeed, so ferocious was the assault, that at one stage, his attackers thought they had killed Mr O’Hagan.

They then fled from the home, taking his TV and mobile phone.
