A planned £4.4m redevelopment of Derry’s Brooke Park has run into funding problems, it can be revealed today.
Derry City Council is overseeing the plans to transform the Victoria park which is located close to the city centre.
However, a group set up as part of a planned redevelopment of Brooke Park has expressed their shock after being told there may not be enough money to complete the project as originally hoped.
The local council announced in 2011 that the park would be completely transformed, with landscaped grounds, and upgraded sport and leisure facilities.
New features are to include the creation of a state-of-the-art play garden as well as the restoration of historic features such as the Robert Ferguson statue.
As part of the plans, the gate lodge will be opened to the public and used as a venue to tell the story of the park.
It is also proposed that the oval pond, which was concreted over several years ago, will be restored.
