Nakba Day will be commemorated at Derry's Arabic Cafe by lighting candles and free samples of fair trade Palestinian food will be offered.

Tasters includes succulent dates, olive oil and za'atar herb dip.

Nakba Day will mark 69 years since the formation of the State of Israel helped create Palestinian refugees.

A range of Zaytoun products made in Palestine are available to take away plus fresh Arabic Cafe food and drinks.

Everything bought in the Arabic Cafe directly helps sustain livelihoods for Palestinian and Syrian refugees.

A spokesperson for the cafe said: "The Arabic Cafe is honoured to cater for Palestinian refugee activist, Kholoud Ajarma – this Thursday, in the early evening. She will be talking about four generations of refugees at 7pm in Unison Hall (not at the Nerve Centre)."

The Arabic Café is temporarily at the Nerve Centre, 7 Magazine St, Derry BT48 6HJ. Fresh food and drinks are served on Thursdays 3-8pm.

A spokesperson for Arabridge said: "Arabridge is a solidarity enterprise. We aim to help everyone integrate, and sustain livelihoods, with Arabic speaking refugees and migrants. The Arabic café delivers freshly prepared Arabic meals, snacks, desserts and drinks. We also offer translation, Arabic language classes, one to one lessons, language swaps, volunteer work placements, plus music, dancing, singing, culture workshops and lessons."

Anyone interested can pop into the Arabic café on Thursday or Friday or text Jo Bird on 0797 007 5704.
