Tribute has been paid to the organisers of this year’s Foyle Pride paid for bringing the city ‘alive with colour and diversity’.
The annual parade took place on Saturday, setting off from the train station at Duke Street before making its way through the city and arriving in the Guildhall Square.
Commenting, the SDLP Leader Colum Eastwood praised those behind the event, and also called on the city to stand with the local Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT+) community in their demand for equal rights.
“Once again the organisers of Foyle Pride have showcased everything that’s great about our city,” he said.
“The colour, the diversity and the warmth of this year’s pride festival have been incredible.
“When I was Mayor of Derry, we held our first ever Pride parade. I was proud to stand with our LGBT+ community then and as Leader of the SDLP, I’m proud that our party continues to stand with them now.
“Achieving full equality for our LGBT+ community has become a civil rights calling of a new generation.
“We must all stand together to deliver a powerful message of hope and acceptance to our LGBT+ friends and family, young and old, that the love they share is as equal as any other.”
